Employees at Delaware Family Courts Vote FOR Union Representation
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 27 is pleased to announce that on Thursday, September 13, 2006, the 220 employees at the Delaware Family Courts in Wilmington, Dover, and Georgetown, Delaware, with a vote of 88 - for UFCW Local 27, 3 - for AFSCME, 25 - for No Union for representation by UFCW Local 27.
The employees sought union representation to address the issues of job security, a voice at work, and obtaining a grievance procedure.
Bargaining Unit employee Catherine Moore a Judicial Assistant at Sussex County had this to say after their victory, “I really feel good, I feel like we’ve accomplished something today. I’ve been here for 20 years in November and it’s time we got someone to back us.”
UFCW Local 27 is looking forward to beginning negotiations on behalf of the employees of Delaware Family Courts and bringing them a true voice in their workplace.
UFCW Local 27 represents 23,000 members in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
