Filing a Grievance

Consult with your Shop Steward, if he/she is unavailable, contact your Service Representative or talk to the Representative on duty in the office. Make sure they have all the pertinent information so they can confirm whether or not you have a legitimate grievance that is actionable. Always keep in mind that there are contractual time limits within which action must be taken for a grievance.

NOTE: Many grievances are handled without ever having to go into the "formal" grievance procedure. If this happens in your case, great. If it doesn't, make sure to follow through and keep in contact with your Representatives - they are your intermediaries with the company.

Make sure you follow-up with whomever you spoke with and provide any other information they request. If you leave a message for them, make sure to leave a valid return phone number - don't assume they have it.

If the grievance procedure is needed to correct or address your issue, make sure to attend all meetings, provide all necessary information, and return calls promptly to ensure the best representation possible.
